PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peak brightness level control method capable of reducing flickering and moving-image blurring even in the case of widely varying a light emitting period.

SOLUTION: Regarding the method for variably controlling the peak brightness level of a display panel by controlling the total length of light emission period within a single-field period, in the case that N light emission periods are set within the single-field period (N≥2), a timing of finishing the i-th (i is an odd number satisfying 1≤i≤N-1) light emission period and a timing of starting the i+1th (2≤i+1≤N) light emission period are variably controlled so as to satisfy the total length of light emission period within the single-field period.
