PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertically fluted filter medium, specially having improved flowabilities. SOLUTION: The vertically fluted filter medium 100 includes a number of tapered vertically fluted chambers 102. The chambers 102 are formed of central vertically fluted sheets 108 where mountain sections 104 and valley sections are alternately formed between opposed sheets 110, the opposed sheets 110 are composed of a first opposed sheet 112 and a second opposed sheet 114. In the valley sections and the sections 104, a vertical fluting 102 is divided into the upper row and the lower row. The upper vertical fluting forms a vertically fluted chamber 122 closed with a downstream end while a vertically fluted chamber 120 with the upstream end closed is located on the lower row of the vertically fluted chamber. The chamber 120 is closed with a first end bead 124 that completely fills the cross-section of the upstream end in the vertical fluting between the sheet 108 and the sheet 114.
