An engine drive type welding machine which authentically performs the idle stop and reboot of the engine is provided. An engine drive type welding machine comprises an engine stop signal formation circuit(IT) forming the stop signal which stops the operation of the engine if the time of the idle state exceeds the due time; a DC power supply connected to the output terminal of the welding machine; a voltage detection system(VS) detecting the voltage change of the output terminal; a reboot detection circuit(RS) forming the reboot signal for making a re-start the engine when showing the predetermined change mode in which the detection voltage detected by the voltage detection system starts the welding work; and an engine control circuit(EC) stopping the engine according to the stop signal, and makes a re-start the engine according to the reboot signal.
