PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve responsiveness in rotation-synchronized control or the like by quickly detecting the shift position of a shift lever at the time of manual speed change. SOLUTION: In the shift position detection device, in initial learning, sensor output is learned when the shift lever is at the neutral position. After completion of the initial learning and before completion of high-precision learning, a determination range for each shift position is set small in accordance with displacement quantity based on reference to a learned value in the initial learning (A in Figure 6). After completion of high-precision learning, sensor output at the neutral position and a shift position (speed change step) is learned, and a determination range for each shift position is set large in accordance with displacement quantity based on the learned value for the neutral position for the stroke (vertical) direction, and based on the learned value for the shift position for the selected (horizontal) direction (B in Figure 6).
