PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for recycling wood waste resulting from demolishing houses or the like as a feedstock for paper manufacturing use by removing harmful organochlorine compounds contained in the wood waste to effect detoxifying the waste. SOLUTION: The method includes the following steps: Wood waste chips produced by converting wood waste derived from construction materials and/or wood pallets into chips are made into chemical pulp to effect recycling the wood wastes into pulp. Specifically, the steps are as follows: Prior to the pulping step, the wood waste chips are either singly or, after mixed with ordinary woodchips, subjected to alkali soaking treatment at the atmospheric pressure under such conditions as to be 0.5-10% in alkali addition rate per dry chip mass, 0.5-120 min in treatment time, 20-120°C in treatment temperature and higher than 10 in the pH of the treatment solution. Thereafter, the resultant wood waste chips are washed to be 2 ppm or lower in the extractable organochlorine concentration of the waste chips, and subsequently pulped in an alkali cooking step.
