<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a process for capturing and implementing a handwritten gesture. <P>SOLUTION: A user can use gestures to quickly instruct a pen-based input device to perform operations. A user can edit text or handwritten ink using a pen in a pen-based computing platform and have the edits affect the text or ink. In a process for performing gestures, access is allowed to the gestures from a general operation environment. The user can add ink, or control one side face of a display (for example, observation, scrolling, or the like can be carried out) in 301. When gestures are created in 302, they can be carried out in 303.
