871,482. Slings for lifting vehicles. TORNQUIST, B. W. Dec. 2, 1959 [Dec. 5, 1958], No. 41032/59. Class 78 (4). The device illustrated is fixed to the road wheel of a vehicle to permit it to be lifted. It includes a flange 2 which bears against the hub of the wheel and is secured by the usual wheelsecuring studs which pass through holes 3 in the flange. Further holes 4 receive the studs and wheel-securing nuts not used in securing the device to the wheel. Where the studs are countersunk adaptor bolts may be secured on to them to hold the device. The device terminates in a welded bow 5 or, alternatively, the tube portion 1 may be compressed from two opposite sides at its outer end which is then apertured. The tube portion 1 may be formed integrally with the flange 2 or welded to it. Four devices are normally used to lift a vehicle, one on each wheel, and are attached to ropes passing to a spreader. The devices may also be used to lash a vehicle down.
