<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device capable of increasing the quantity of a light projected to an optical transmission member without a laser oscillation. <P>SOLUTION: The optical device 1 has a light source 2, a condensing member 3 and an optical fiber 4. The light source 2 has an end face emission type semiconductor light-emitting diode 11 capable of irradiating a polarized light L. The semiconductor light-emitting diode 11 has a substrate 21 using an (m) face as a growth face 21a, a semiconductor multilayer structure 22, an N-side electrode 23, a P-side electrode 24 and a reflecting film 25. In the semiconductor multilayer structure 22, an N-type semiconductor layer 27, a light-emitting layer 28 and a P-type semiconductor layer 29 are laminated successively from the substrate 21 side. The condensing member 3 is arranged on the end face 11a side consisting of the +(c) face of the semiconductor light-emitting diode 11 in the (c) axial direction as the direction orthogonal to the polarization direction for condensing a large quantity of the polarized light L. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
