A controller to control a cashier mark sensor stores cashier mark setting (239) indicative of a setting value of the detection sensitivity of the cashier mark sensor made to correspond to a bar code number (231) at a memory unit. When the controller receives the bar code number (231) from a bar code reader, the controller reads out the cashier mark setting (239) corresponding to the received bar code number (231). Further, the controller sets the detection sensitivity corresponding to the read cashier mark setting (239) to the cashier mark sensor.
