VIDEO DISPLAY AND SIDE MASK ADJUSTING METHOD USED FOR SAME

When information is included in side masks on both sides of a video having an aspect ratio of 4:3, a video display capable of alleviating burn-in while leaving the information is provided. A side mask detecting section (1) detects whether or not the right and left side masks added to the right and left of the video corresponding to an input video signal (vi) are present. When detecting them, the side mask detecting section (1) identifies the positions of the right and left side masks. A side mask grading section (2) grades the display near the preset center of the detected right and left side masks and displays it on a PDP (3). Thus, the burn-in of the right and left side masks of the PDP (3) is alleviated.
