PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of efficiently interpolating image data including color image. SOLUTION: In a computer system having a scanner or the like as an image input device and having a color printer or the like as an image output device, original image data are inputted to a printer driver in the step ST202 to count the number of colors utilized in images in the steps ST204, ST206 to extract a feature amount for determining whether images of the image data are natural images or unnatural images, and determines whether the images are natural images or unnatural imaged, based upon the feature amount in the step ST208 to execute nearest interpolation processing in the step ST210 in the case of unnatural images, or to execute cubic interpolation processing in the step ST212 in the case of natural images.
