<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for purifying water in water tank, in which purification treatment of water in a water tank is efficiently carried out by microorganisms that spontaneously proliferate and stable purification treatment can be carried out, especially when purification treatment is started and the size of the apparatus is reduced, and for which maintenance can be carried out readily. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for purifying water in a water tank is obtained by storing an oxidation treatment filtering material 14, an ammonia-absorbing material 13 and a reducing filling material 16 into a case body 1 which has an inlet 4 and an outlet 5 for the water tank, subjecting water for water tank introduced from the inlet 4 to purification treatment through the oxidation treatment filtering material, the ammonia-absorbing material and the reducing filling material and recycling water from the outlet 5 into the water tank. A ring material containing silica as a main raw material is preferably used as the oxidation treatment filtering material 14, and an absorbing material containing inorganic clay minerals as main raw material is, preferably, used as the ammonia-absorbing material 13.
