PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can perform optimal preparation parallel control without altering the main body side program even if an ADF itself or an ADF having an altered control timing is reloaded, and to provide an image forming apparatus, an image reading method, an image reading program, and a recording medium. SOLUTION: The time required for the head of a document image to reach a reading position after starting image read-out is acquired, preparation operation is controlled based on that time, and conveyance preparation time data acquired from an ADF depending on the reading conditions is utilized when an image is read out. Consequently, optimal reading control can be performed without altering the main body side program even if an ADF of different control timing is connected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
