PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump type snow melting device capable of saving electric power, while coping with the large area of a snow melting part. SOLUTION: This heat pump type snow melting device has a heat source machine composed of a pump 8 for circulating a secondary heating medium, a snow melting heat exchanger, a compressor 1, an outdoor heat exchanger, an expansion mechanism 5 and a heat source machine control device 50, a snowfall sensor control device 13 transmitting a control signal to the heat source machine based on information of a snowfall sensor 14, a heater 80 heating the secondary heating medium sent out to the snow melting part, and a return water temperature sensor 83 detecting the temperature of the secondary heating medium returning from the snow melting part, and is characterized in that the heat source machine control device 50 operates the heater 80 when the return water temperature detected by the return water temperature sensor 83 does not reach a preset value, even if the compressor 1 of the heat source machine is operated at a maximum rotating speed.
