摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine capable of recovering catalyst activity, when a catalyst is an inactive state, by detecting active state of the catalyst. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine is suitably used when using alcohol mixed fuel as fuel. The exhaust emission control device of the internal combustion engine has a catalyst active state determining means having an NOx storage-reduction catalyst on an exhaust passage and a control means. The catalyst active state determining means determines whether or not an active state of the NOx storage-reduction catalyst is in the inactive state. The control means reduces a fuel injection quantity of a cylinder of causing rich combustion of the internal combustion engine, when determining that the active state of the NOx storage-reduction catalyst is in the inactive state by the catalyst active state determining means, when performing enriching control for enriching the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine. With such a constitution, cooling of the NOx storage-reduction catalyst can be restrained, and the catalyst activity of the NOx storage-reduction catalyst can be recovered.
