[Also in Division B6] In a machine for gumming the closure flaps of bags, the bags are arranged with the closure flaps trailing and are lifted by a roller 3 with recess 4 from a first conveyer 1 to a second slower Conveyer 6 so that only the closure flaps are exposed to be gummed by a roller 15 revolving at the same speed as the slower conveyer 6. The gumming roller 15 has recesses 18 to leave gaps 24 (Fig. 2), between lines of gum formed on two end flaps 22, 23 of a self-sealing envelope (see Division B6). Associated with the recessed roller 3 is a lever 14 for lifting the trailing edges of the bags. The bags are arranged such that the distances between their leading edges is equal to the circumference of the roller 3. The distance between the faster rollers 2, 3 and slower rollers 7, 8 may be adjusted for different bag sizes by pivoting a lever 9 on which the latter two rollers are mounted. Latex rubber gum may be used for the above type of envelope. |
