In a method and a transmission device for transmitting zapping data, whic h is part of a first data rate in periodically recurring burst intervals (.D ELTA.tA, .DELTA.tB ) of a digital television transmission system of respecti vely transmitted programs, and which are transmitted in time intervals (.DEL TA.t1A, .DELTA.t1B; .DELTA.t4A, .DELTA.t4B) between the burst intervals (.DE LTA.tA, .DELTA.tB ) associated with the respective program, the zapping data is transmitted at a second data rate that is different from the first data rate of the individual bursts.
