PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reception coil for the head of a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of expanding the visual field of a subject and reducing the mental oppressive feeling of the subject. SOLUTION: The reception coil for the head of the magnetic resonance imaging apparatus for detecting nuclear magnetic resonance signals generated from the subject 7 is provided with an upper side coil 14a installed on the upper side of the head of the subject 7 and a lower side coil 14b installed on the lower side of the head of the subject, and a gap part 141 for securing the visual field of the subject lying on his/her stomach is provided on the front end of the lower side coil 14b.
