The method involves molding a piston blank (1) from steel material, where the piston blank includes a free area (9) below a rotating flange (3) and a contact surface (5) above a piston shaft (6) for the flange. The flange is deformed in a direction of the contact surface, without allowing the flange to contact the contact surface. Areas of the piston blank and the flange that is to be attached in the contact surface are warmed. The flange is additionally deformed in such a manner that the flange contacts the contact surface.
