Production of a three-dimensional cam for driving a cam follower comprises crossing the rotational axis (3) of the cam in a single crossing angle (7) during formation of a base circle cylinder section (2) without cutting the rotational axis of the cam so that the rotational body (4) contacts the cylinder section of the cam on a contact curve (10) which does not lie in a plane through the rotational axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Device for carrying out the above process; and (2) Cam produced by the above process. Preferred Features: The peripheral surface (5) of the rotational body has a surface section (5a) producing the base circle cylinder section and peripheral sections (5b, 5c) connected to it so that they contact the cams individually or in groups.
