A composite coating method of the hearth roll which successively performs the plasma powder coating, the electrical arc wire coating, and the high velocity oxygen fuel spray coating powder coating and obtains the high surface roughness is provided. A method for coating the surface of the hearth roll comprises a step for doing the grit blasting for the illumination value Ra, 12~15mum is in the hearth roll exterior wall to the pressure of 5~7kg/cm^2(S10); a step for forming the bond coating layer which makes powder coating in the hearth roll exterior wall passed the plasma and in which the illumination value Ra is 8~11mum above statement step(S20); a step for forming the middle coating layer which coats wire at the upper part of the bond coating layer the electrical arc and in which the illumination value Ra is 20~25mum(S30); and a step for forming the top coat layer which makes powder coating at the upper part of the middle coating layer the high velocity oxygen fuel spray coating and in which the illumination value Ra is 9~10mum(S40).
