<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of measuring a blade tip gap and a method of active gap control. <P>SOLUTION: This multi-sensor gap probe 1 with longitudinally and transversely arranged first and second sensors 2, 3 is so operated as to measure first and second distances D1, D2 between the sensors and a longitudinally arranged rotating rotor 30. The sensors are so operated as to measure the blade tip gap between the radially outward tip 82 of a turbine blade and an annular stator shroud 72 surrounding the blade tip. The blade tip may be squealer tip and the sensors can be so operated as to measure the distances between the sensors and top 137 of squealer tip wall 129 and outwardly facing wall 131 within a cavity of the squealer tip. The probe is operably connected to a controller, and sends the signals indicating the first and second distances for controlling an air valve used for the active gap control.
