PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To know the source of a copy of a newspaper or magazine by watching the copy. SOLUTION: A document in which character strings are described is read by a scanner 101, feature information of the character strings is detected, source information corresponding to the detected feature information of the character strings is specified by referring to data being stored in a storage section 104, and the specified source information is appended to a copy image of the read document.
