<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene which rises in expression in hepatocellular carcinoma, to provide a polypeptide encoded by the gene, and a method for detecting hepatocellular carcinoma. <P>SOLUTION: DDEFL1, VANGL1, a LGN gene, and a polypeptide encoded by each of these genes, an expression vector, and a transformant are provided, respectively. The method for detecting hepatocellular carcinoma using a probe including each of these gene arrangements, a primer, and an antibody to each of the polypeptides, is also provided.
