PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system, a video image display device and a projection image display device maintaining constant a volume of light emitted by a solid light source and enabled to aim at saving power consumption. SOLUTION: The lighting system 120 is provided with a solid light source 10, a Peltier element 20 cooling the solid light source 10, a light volume sensor 70 detecting a volume of light irradiated from the solid light source 10, a consumption power monitoring part 153 monitoring power consumption of the solid light source 10 and the Peltier element 20, and a power control part 154 controlling power supplied to the solid light source 10 and the Peltier element 20. The power control part 154 controls power supplied to the solid light source 10 and the Peltier element 20 based on a sum of the light volume detected by the light volume sensor 70 and consumed power of the solid light source 10 and the Peltier element 20.
