PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device comparatively low in manufacturing cost, applicable to a multifunctional button and high in visibility with reduced difficulty in manufacturing. SOLUTION: A plurality of optical units including light sources 101a-101c and band pass filters 103a-103c for obtaining light in a predetermined wavelength band, and notch filters 102a-102c having patterns formed by shaping members for selectively attenuating light in the wavelength band based on the shape to be displayed, and attenuating light in the wavelength band, are provided and notch filters 102a-102c are arranged one on top of another. Since the light emitted from the light source is attenuated by portions without characters formed on the notch filters, characters to be displayed can be displayed. If the light source is switched, characters or the like corresponding to the pattern formed at the notch filter provided corresponding to the light source can be switchingly displayed.
