PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To examine the effects of styryl benzene derivatives on the aggregation or fibrillation of amyloid proteins and to provide a medicine not only treating amyloid diseases but also monitoring the symptoms of the diseases. SOLUTION: The styryl benzene derivatives represented by a chemical formula 1 (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each independently OH or carboxy; R<SB>3</SB>is F or Br) have an action for inhibiting the aggregation or fibrillation of the amyloid proteins. The styryl benzene derivatives are effective for treating the amyloid diseases, because of inhibiting amyloid protein structural changes accompanying the amyloid diseases, and are also effective for detecting the amyloid proteins, because of having affinity with the amyloid proteins.
