PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp actual truing quantity of a grinding surface of a grinding wheel by detecting contact of the grinding surface of the grinding wheel and a contact detection roll before and after truing. SOLUTION: A radius of the grinding wheel after truing is found by advancing the grinding wheel 21 before truing, detecting a first relative position against a truing device 30 of a wheel spindle stock 20 when a contact signal due to contact with the contact detection roll 33 is delivered, detecting a second relative position against the truing device of the wheel spindle stock when the contact signal is delivered by advancing the grinding wheel after truing by cutting the grinding surface of the grinding wheel against a truing roll 32 by prescribed cutting quantity and deducting a difference between the first relative position and the second relative position from a radius before truing of the grinding wheel. A radius of the truing roll is found by deducting a value found by deducting the difference between the first relative position and the second relative position from the prescribed cutting quantity, from the radius before truing of the truing roll.
