The cooling device (101) has a cooling agent in a cooling circuit (301), which is guided by a cylinder block (401) and a radiator block. The cooling circuit is formed partly as a component of a refrigerant circuit (601) with an evaporator (701), a refrigerant compressor (801) and a condenser (901). A thermal transducer (1101) is connected with a waste heat source (1001) of the internal combustion engine for conversion of waste heat of the internal combustion engine into mechanical or electrical energy that is used in the operation of refrigerant compressor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooling device for the removal of a part of the waste heat.
