The invention relates to a device for needling a nonwoven web having on t he base thereof at least one needle bar comprising a needle board having a p lurality of needles. The needle bar is held by a bar carrier on which a vert ical drive engages for oscillating motion of the bar carrier for an up and d own movement. A superimposed horizontal drive is also associated with the ba r carrier, by which a back-and-forth movement is induced. The horizontal dri ve has two eccentric drives coupled to a horizontal guide. The eccentric dri ves are each formed by a connecting rod and a crankshaft coupled to a connec ting head of the connecting rod. According to the invention, the connecting rods are coupled to the horizontal guide with the connecting rod ends thereo f in a diagonal orientation, the center axes of the connecting rods forming an angle.
