Implantable prosthesis

An implatable prosthesis (20) for a tissue or muscle defect is disclosed. It comprises at least one layer of material (22), at least a portion of which permits the formation of adhesions with tissue or muscle. The at least one layer includes a peripheral edge (24), an outer area (26) disposed inwardly of the peripheral edge and an inner area (28) disposed inwardly of the outer area. At least one first pocket (32) is formed in the inner area and at least one second pocket (60) is formed in the outer area and separate from the first pocket. The second pocket includes at least one access opening (62) for gaining access to an interior of the second pocket.
