In making fancy yarns by changing for a selected time the rate at which yarn is supplied to a twisting apparatus by cams on a chain or disc which operate on an electro-mechanical or electromagnetic clutch for adjusting the speed of the delivery-means, a timing-device is operated simultaneously with the operation of the clutch means, is driven at a speed proportional to that at which the delivery means is driven, and, at the end of a predetermined period operates a switch to deenergize the adjusting-means. One part 2 of an electromagnetic clutch is keyed to a shaft 1 on which a yarn-delivery roller is mounted. The other part 3 is loose on the shaft and carries a pinion 4 meshing with a pinion 5 loose on a shaft 6. An arm 10 loose on shaft 6 carries a switch 11 and a pin 12 which can engage a selected one of a number of holes in a fixed disc 14. The pinion 5 carries a finger 7 which with the clutch-parts disengaged, is caused by a spring 8 to be in contact with a stop 9. When the speed of the deliveryroller is to be changed the control-cam provides an electric impulse which closes the circuit of a speed-adjusting clutch, and of the clutch 2, 3. The finger 7 engages the switch 11 after an interval determined by the setting of the arm 10 relative to the disc 14; the switch 11 disengages the two clutches, so that the delivery roller reverts to normal speed, and the drive to the pinion 5 is interrupted. During the rotation of the pinion 5, the spring 8 is tensioned so that when the clutch 2, 3 is separated it back-rotates the pinion 5 to bring the finger 7 against the stop 9. In another form the timer comprises a perforated disc continuously rotating with the shaft of the delivery-roll. When the speed of the latter is charged a lamp is switched on to give light-impulses through the holes in the disc to operate an impulse-counter through a light-sensitive cell. When a selected number of impulses have been counted, the circuits for the clutch controlling the delivery roller and lamp are interrupted. |
