Separating granulates by density - using liquid flowing upward through perforated vibrating trough

The mixture of e.g. mineral granulates enters at one end, and the separated constituents are discharged at the other. The mixture passes through >=1 zone, each comprising a perforated floor through which the fluid passes upwards through the granulate. At least once during its passage along the vibrating trough, the granulate material is subjected to a free fall. The prefd. fluid is water, and the method is intended esp. for removing carbon constituents from quartz sand, for making sand-lime bricks.
