<p>Cellular silicate based acoustic and thermal insulating material comprises alkali silicates mixed with ground crystalline silicate in a wt. ratio of 2-6:1 together with 15% water (w.r.t. the dry material). The mixt. is heated to 140-500 degrees C at const. vol. and without passing into the vapour phase to develop the reaction prod. The prod. has equal porosity with regularly formed cells, to prior art material, but increased compressive strength acoustic insulation properties and fire resistance. It can be machined and cut readily and will accept nails and screws. It can be readily bonded with mortar, lime, plaster cement and concrete.</p> |
