Inflatable shaping bag or diaphragm for a tyre building drum contains in >=1 circumferential region a reinforcement forced from a large number of reinforcement elements which are essentially inextensible disposed in planes passing through the axis of the bag or diaphragm, the reinforcement having a high resistance to flexing in these planes so that the region of the bag or diaphragm contg. the reinforcement shows a high lateral flexing rigidity while remaining radially expansible. The bag or diaphragm enables a tyre contg. a rigid protector with a flat profile, such as a protector of steel cords, to be built on a drum which is relatively cheap and inexpensive.
