<p>Yarn is fed to e.g., a knitting machine by contact with a driven roll arranged between a pair of yarn guides, and the roll has a circumferential channel in which the yarn seats, the bottom of the channel being covered with a high friction material and the sides of the channel being smooth. Pref. the roll has several such channels for guiding several yarns and the yarns pass over this roll and under another similar roll in a serpentine path between the guides. The two rolls may be mounted on a common support which is rotatable to bring the rolls into and out of contact with the yarns. Each roll may be formed by a rubber covered cylindrical core carrying axially spaced polished metal rings between which the channels are defined. The channels prevent the yarns from moving axially along the roller, thereby preventing an increase in their travel path and tension, and reducing the possibility of breakage.</p> |
