Electro-slag remelting - with alternately used electrodes

For the remelting of consumable electrodes into rectangular cross section blocks, du ring which the electrodes and the cooled mould describe a horizontally reciprocating motion relative to each other, the electrodes are positioned above the bath next to each other spaced such as to permit their alternate use without the need for interrupting the melting process during the changeover. The electrodes are pref. canged over, when one has been melted down and a fresh electrode is required. The arrangement shortens the ingot prodn. time and also keeps the melting process going continuously which is metallurgically desirable.
