Optically measuring carbon monoxide - in metallurgical converter gases

The luminous energy emerging from the converter is rapidly measured using a detector whose axis dips into a point of aim situated as close as possible to the mouth, pref. at its centre, the CO content being deduced from this measurement and a calibration curve. The luminous energy may be measured using a photocell having a wave guide and an optical focussing system with an optical filter, or a radiation pyrometer may be used.
