The maltose solns which may be used for injection into humans or animals, may be used as a diuretic, in cases of collapse or diabetic coma, or for artificial feeding, e.g. in digestive tract disorders. They have the advantage that, unlike glucose, maltose does not give rise to hyperglycaemia, and they are therefore esp. useful for treatment of diabetics. The solns may also contain polysaccharides, esp. maltotriose, in the ratio of 5 pts wt. polysaccharide: 95 pts wt maltose. The solns pref contain 5-50% maltose.
