DL- alpha -methylphenylalanine is resolved by the cinchonine and cinchonidine salts to give pure D(+) and L(-) isomers. This resolution results in the isolation of the pharmacological properties exhibited by the DL mixture and further shows a reduction of undesirable side effects.
