<p>A machine for making slashes in a continuous strip of tyre stock includes a threaded helically bladed rotatable drum over which tread stock is passed to groove and cut it, the drum being partially immersed in a tank of lubricating fluid and the stock running over the protruding part of the drum. In this way lubricant is not centrifugally thrown from the tip of the blade, and high speeds can be used without hot spots occurring at the tip of the blade. Pref. the stock is pressed against the drum by a resilient presser roll adjustably mounted to vary the degree of pressure.</p> |
