<p>1439745 Biological filler packing element HYDRONYL Ltd 7 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24124/72 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] A random packing element for use in a biological filter tower or bed comprises a containing wall in the form of an open ended cylinder, the open ends being connected by at least one passage, the cylinder having a length not greater than its diameter, and a plurality of inner walls contained within the outer limits of and integral with said containing wall and presenting surfaces on which biological activity may occur, the total surface area of the inner walls contained within the outer limits of the containing wall being greater than the total surface area of the containing wall. In a preferred embodiment (Fig. 18) the cylindrical containing wall 34 has apertures therein and has a plurality of diametrically arranged ribs 36 arranged within it, said ribs having further ribs 38 extending at an acute angle therefrom, said ribs 36 also being integral with a short central hollow coaxial cylinder 37. Between the ribs 36 are additional short ribs 39 extending radially inwardly from the inner surface of cylinder 34. The packing elements, which may be made from plastics materials, may be packed in a random manner in a filter tower. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,275,116.</p> |
