发明名称 METHOD APPARATUS AND SYSTEM FOR FITNESS SORTING OF CURRENCY BILLS
摘要 1385116 Photo-electric bank-note fitness sorters PITNEY-BOWES Inc 11 Sept 1972 [16 Sept 1971] 42021/72 Heading G1A Banknotes are sorted according to fitness for continued circulation by feeding the notes seriatim along a path and sorting into fit and unfit recepticals according to the output of a photo-electric detector measuring the transmissivity of the notes. The input notes are arranged in "straps" of one hundred between which are placed pairs of separator cards, one card of each pair having the optical characteristics of a fit note and the other those of an unfit note. Notes are removed from the stack by a wheel and passed through a measuring station which determines the transmissivity of the central portion of each note and controls a divertor which sorts the notes into fit and unfit receivers according to whether or not the detector signal exceeds a predetermined threshold level. As shown, Fig.2, the measuring station comprises a fluorescent tube emitting blue light or having a blue filter and a masking plate 40 below which are arranged a vacuum photo-tube 50 and two photo-resistors 52, 54. The three detectors are connected to a logic control circuit which is arranged so that when the leading edge of a note (bill) is detected by photo-resistor 52 a BILL PRES signal is produced which after a delay strobes the output F/UF of the fitness measuring circuit 62 which depends on whether or not the output of detector 50 exceeds a reference level. When the trailing edge of the note is detected a fit (F CT) or unfit (UF CT) output and a strap count (STRAP CT) output are produced after a short delay provided the batch detector circuit is providing an output BATCH SEN indicating that the detector 54 is not still covered. The F/CT, UF CT and STRAP CT outputs are stored in counters FIT CTR, UNFIT CTR and STRAP CTR. The detection logic also provides a gate drive output GATE DR which controls the divertor mechanism to sort the notes into fit and unfit hoppers. When the count in either the FIT CTR or the UNFIT CTR reaches one hundred a FULL signal is produced which stops the machine to allow the operator to place a separator card in the appropriate hopper. The separator cards placed between the straps at the input are basically the same size and shape as the notes but have extending tabs positioned at the trailing edges so that detector 54 remains covered after detector 52 is exposed and this provides a BATCH SEN signal which inhibits the outputs to the counters and generates a check strap verification signal which stops the machine unless the strap counter contains a count of one hundred. This together with the use of pairs of separator cards, one of which is sorted into each hopper, enables the notes originating in the last strap to be collected and reassembled so that they can be recounted and any shortage or overage investigated. If the strap count is correct clock pulses are fed to additional counters FIT ADD CLK CTR and UNFIT ADD CLK CTR until these contain the same counts as the FIT CTR and UNFIT CTR respectively, this being determined by comparator 88 and 90. The total number of clock pulses is also accumulated in TOTAL CTR 92. The additional counters thus store the counts at the completion of each verified input strap. If the next strap is unverified and is removed the FIT CTR and UNFIT CTR are returned to their counts at the start of that strap by a NOT VER signal which non destructively transfers the contents of the additional counters into the main counters.
