Preparation of transparent and thermostable copolymers

Low pressure polymerization of a vinyl halide with 4-methyl pentene-1 is disclosed. The reaction is conducted in an oxygen-free atmosphere at a pressure not in excess of 150 atmospheres absolute at a temperature of from -5 DEG to +80 DEG C., optionally in the presence of a polymerization initiator. The resulting product is transparent, colorless, thermostable and has a melt index of not more than 100.
