The generator delivers pulses signalling the consumption of a certain fixed quantity to a counter connected to it via a gate. The gate is a digital pulse frequency separator with several outputs, each connected to a summating counter. The pulse frequency separator directs a fixed quantity signalling pulse to one of the counters, depending on its distance from the preceding fixed quantity pulse. The pulse frequency separator has a counter controlled by the pulse generator and reset to zero by each fixed quantity pulse. It has a decoder which controls one of a number of gates, depending on the pulse counter reading.
