The compressor is operated by a hand lever or foot pedal, which, via ratchet wheels, tensions a spiral-wound spring. The spring is contained in and with one end attached to, a drum which rotates when the spring is tensioned. The outer surface of the drum has a wave-shaped cam groove. Cam followers engage the groove and, when the drum rotates, impart a reciprocating motion to a number of pump rods. The rods operate pairs of bellows with inlet and outlet connections and valves. The outlets are connected with a pressure chamber.
