During normal running the spare wheel is attached to the chassis horizontally by two studs which, after the nuts are removed, can be retracted on sprung loaded swivels, leaving the wheel suspended from the quick release hooks. The quick release operating rod is attached to the release hook and sprung loaded to keep it closed. When this rod is operated against the action of a spring the release hook is disengaged from the hub bore of the wheel rim, to leave the wheel suspended from the support hook opposite the hub bore. The wheel is then free to swing about the support hook into a vertical plane ready to be removed.
