A surgical facial mask has a section (I) of its main body designed to cover the nose and mouth and possesses a means for fastening (I) over the nose and mouth. (I) consists of a pseudo-tissue formed from thermoplastic filaments with dia. 14-20 mu; most of the filaments being arranged in a plane perpendicular to the direction of air flow through the mask, the tissue weighing 43.54-55.98g/0.84m2 (1.4 oz. - 1.8 ox/yd2.) and having a thickness of 0.0254 - 0.0508 cm (0.01"-0.02") and an empty volume of about 85%, and being free of agglutinants.
