Electrically heated thermoplastic welding socket for joining thermoplastic pipes is produced by (a) heating the outer wall of a socket body - forming pipe section to a temp. which is higher than that of its inner wall, and lies in the region of 115 degrees C, (b) contacting a heating wire coil with the inner surface of the pipe section, so that the section is widened out, (c) heating the inner wall of the pipe section to a temp. in the region of 180 degrees C in order to shrink the inner wall onto the coil, and (d) cooling to room temp. Process is more economical than injection moulding, and is esp. for joining pipes with a dia, of >200 mm. The joints have good weather resistance. |
