The single blade screw is made from a disc with a central hole, which is slit along a radius and then formed into a helix by relative axial displacement of the edges of the slit. A development of the idea uses a number of such helices mounted on a common shaft. The leading edges of the helices are spaced apart from each other by an angle equal to 360 deg. divided by the number of helices. This multiplication of helices results in a better flow of fluid. The assembly of shaft and helices is then mounted in a close fitting nacelle with an open ended cone fixed at the front.
|
